This series of illustrated books is a collaboration between illustrator Fatti Burke and her father John Burke who is a retired history teacher. The ideal project for them to work on, each book features a renowned figure from Irish history.

  • Book number 1 tells the story of the infamous Granuaile, Grace O’Malley, the Pirate Queen from Co. Mayo.  
  • Book number 2 is about Brian Ború, the warrior from Kilaloe, Co. Clare who grew his army and became King of all of Ireland. 
  • In book number 3 you can discover the revolutionary Constance Markievicz, the rebel countess who dreamt of Irelands freedom and fought in the Easter Rising in 1916. 
  • Book number 4 features Tom Crean, the great adventurer from Anascaul, Co. Kerry who ran away from home at 15 and joined in some of the worlds greatest expeditions of discovery.

  • In book 5 we learn all about Mary Robinson, how she became the youngest professor of law in Ireland, her presidency, and her time working for the United Nations. From law to politics, Mary has spent her life fighting for equality, humans rights, and climate justice. 

  • In book number 6 discover the soldier and peacemaker that was Michael Collins! Michael Collins was born in County Cork and was the youngest of eight children. He moved to London as a teenager but returned to Ireland to fight in the Easter Rising of 1916. By 1919 he was Minister for Finance in the First Dáil. After the Irish War of Independence, Michael went back to London to negotiate peace. The resulting Anglo-Irish Treaty established the Irish Free State but depended on an oath of allegiance to the Crown. And so the Irish Civil War began …
